Promises Fulfilled

In Ireland, a staggering 25 per cent of people have never logged onto the internet – a major barrier to this is access to IT equipment.

Through “Promise it” to Rehab Recycle, we are attempting to bridge this gap by enabling people obtain low cost IT equipment and thus profit from gaining IT skills and being able to go online. This can be of huge benefit in doing things as simple as a job search, being able to type and upload a CV, ordering groceries, or even skyping friends and relatives overseas.

Already, companies promising it to Rehab Recycle are helping to make a real difference with 50 desktop computers having been donated to date to various schools, charities, and community groups, including:

  • Third Age, Co. Meath
  • Alone, Dublin 8
  • Barretstown, Co. Kildare
  • ISPCC, Dublin 2
  • The Phoenix Park Special School, Dublin 8
  • St Pius X Boys’ National School, Dublin 6
  • St Patrick’s National School, Dublin 18
  • Scoil ChaoimhĂn Naofa, Co. Wicklow
  • Stewarts Care, Dublin 20
  • HOPE(D), Co. Kildare

By way of illustration, for Third Age the donation means that computer skills’ classes can take place where older people can learn vital IT skills with their peers at a similar knowledge level. It’s also a great reason for a get-together, a chat and a cup of tea!

For the schools involved, the computers are providing an additional aid for classroom learning. In addition, it means that out-of-date equipment can be replaced without impacting on school budgets, freeing up precious funds for other key educational resources.

For HOPE(D), the computers will be passed on to clients, giving them the chance to develop their computer skills while also providing an opportunity to link with networks of contacts and affording a window on the outside world.

By signing up to “Promise it” to Rehab Recycle, this is what you are helping to make happen.
