WEEE Ireland Schools Awareness Campaign

WEEE Ireland together with Rehab Recycle are seeking to raise awareness and increase collection levels of small household waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) among schoolchildren of all ages with the WEEE Ireland Schools Awareness Campaign which was launched in 2006.

Every participating school in this innovative scheme receives a free recycled computer, refurbished by Rehab Recycle. In addition, schools participating in the WEEE Ireland initiative also get an hour-long talk by Rehab Recycle presenters on electronic and electrical waste recycling. What’s more, Rehab Recycle also disposes of small electrical appliances such as kettles, toasters and hairdryers collected from pupils during the visit to the school. To date, nearly 70 tonnes of WEEE has been recycled from over 700 visits to schools, and both these figures are increasing by the day.

However, it is not just primary and secondary schools that are being targeted by the initiative. Rehab Recycle presenters have also visited universities, third-level colleges and community groups, in fact anywhere where people may have an interest in WEEE recycling
